Stained Glass Nail Art Tutorial + Maybelline Colour Show Sequins Collection

Today I've got some beautiful new Maybelline New York Color Show polishes to show you, as well as a new nail tutorial. The polishes are from their new Sequins collection and were perfect for this look!

From left to right, top to bottom the colours are:
Sea-Quins, Rose Bling, Silver Gleam and Gold's Night out.

I wanted to create a design that could incorporate all four colours, and this is what I ended up with. Hope you like it! Of course, it's essentially a colour block mani but I asked on Facebook for other names and stained glass was the most popular. I think it works!

Halloween Nail Art Tutorials - Ghost, Jack-O-Lantern & Skeleton!

Where did the month go? One minute I was shocked it was the 1st of October and now it's the 30th! I realised I really needed to get the picture versions of my Halloween nail tutorials out ASAP, as it'll be too late soon. Normally I'd do a separate post for each of these designs but because of the lack of days left in October I'm publishing them all together - which will be handy for anyone looking for Halloween nail art tutorials!

First up, here's how to do my Ghost nails.

The first post I made about these little ghosties is here, and you can watch the YouTube tutorial & subcribe below!

Halloween Skeletons - Nail Art Tutorial

One last tutorial for the Halloween season! I decided to do one for these skeleton nails that are always popping up around the internet. I've done them on a friend before, which you can find here - I called them "skull nails" at the time.

Here's the tutorial! Also YouTube recently released this handy little subscribe button - hit it, you know you want to...

Jack-O-Lanterns - Nail Art Tutorial

More Halloween nail art! I did these Jack-O-Lanterns yesterday and managed to edit the video today, which I'm pretty happy with. These initially were going to be quite simple but I couldn't help but add more as I went along! Although I couldn't fit a mouth on (because of my wee little nubbins) I'm happy with how these turned out. Some of the pumpkins actually look quite sweet - like the ring finger one!

 Here's the tutorial.

Halloween Ghosts - Nail Art Tutorial

I wore these ghost nails last week and loved them! Better yet, they're surprisingly easy to do and are great for Halloween. It's crazy how much easier it is to do nail art when you know each step to take! So naturally, I did a YouTube tutorial for them, and a picture one will be up at some stage too.

Like most of my videos, it's short and sweet - less than 2:30! Let me know what you think of it. I reckon these ghosts would look super cute in multiple colours. I considered doing that but thought it might look too much like Pac-Man, and since it's coming up to the 31st October I figured I should stick to the Halloween theme.

On a side note, I applied for nail school today! I'm so happy and excited and just wish February would hurry up and come around! I still have to wait four whole months -_-.

10 things I Learned From The Edge Social Games

Quick run down; in case you missed it, last month I was selected by a New Zealand radio station called The Edge to be part of something called the Social Games. I was one of ten contestants that lived in a house for up to three weeks with constant web-cam surveillance - big brother style. We had many challenges to participate in, which helped us win things (immunity, facebook credit, mobile phones for fans, etc) and had to get as many votes as possible. We were aged from 18-27;  I was second-oldest at 23. Seven were single, three were in relationships, and there was a mixture of straight, gay and bi sexualities. Oh, and there was $20,000 up for grabs ;).

It was an experience, to say the least! I was originally going to write a play-by-play account of what happened, but not only would it be biased but a bit irrelevant now. Then I thought I'd make a list of big things that happened, but really that did nothing but fuel (old) gossip and entertain for the wrong reasons. So I've decided to write about what I in particular learned from the Social Games - about myself and other people, in list form. It's still going to be completely biased and whatnot, but hey, my blog, my rules.

Here are a couple of promotional pictures that were taken (there was also a TV commercial which I can't seem to find). I'm the one on the right being strangled by the guy who ended up winning - good move on his part, I guess!

Sunflower Nail Art - Picture Tutorial!

As you may know, I'm in the process of making picture tutorials out of all my YouTube ones! Here's my latest one - sunflower nails. Floral designs are some of my favourites, and sunflowers are my favourite flowers so it's only natural that this is one of my favourite manicures! Hope you like the tutorial - and I've embeded the YouTube version further down.

Tribal Nail Art In Blue, Green & Yellow

These took a long time! And considering I started off this nail-painting session thinking, "I don't want to do anything too complicated" it was a bit ironic. However, I was happy with the result and it was a chance to try out my new acrylic paints!

So, more tribal nails. Tribal print in general is one of my all-time favourite designs to do on my nails; I've done them several times before - here, here, here, here and here. These ones were inspired by the instagram user @danicaj who has some amazing nail art! Make sure sure you go subscibe to her - and me while you're at it - @naileditnz! The exact design I used for inspiration is here, but I changed the colours and had to make up the thumb nail as it wasn't present in her photo.

Nail art for kids - ladybugs, bright brushstrokes and roses.

I've had these tucked away in my computer for ages now, and today seems like a good day to bring them out! Here are three manicures I've done on children in the last few months.

The first set are a copy of these nails that I did on myself ages ago. However I didn't have a sponge this time so I just used the nail polish brush to create the effect here. Glad it still looked okay!

Ladybugs are always a popular choice for kid's nail art :).

Poppy Flower Water Decals From KKCenterHk

I have these cute poppy water decals from KKCenterHk, and decided to try them out yesterday. As I hadn't used water decals like this before and wasn't 100% sure on how to use them, I checked the website. It ended up being quite an entertaining experience - it didn't have instructions but it did say "Little beetle want to try morning glory's honey, they are keep close very slowly and quietly. Let's try to DIY your nails. When you finish, sharing this with your friends." Right :P.

The picture below shows the sheet they came on - I ended up cutting each strip into three pieces, so I could have three nails done on each hand. I probably could have stretched it to four nails, and those with smaller nails could get it on all their nails if they were careful when cutting them out.

By the way, this is one of the items I'm giving away for my KKCenterHk giveaway, which closes in early October. It's really easy to enter, check it all out here!

My Nail Polish Birthday Cake - With Recipe For The Best Chocolate Cake Ever!

I'm just going to put this out there - I'm not so good at cake decorating. In fact I'm terrible at it. Nevertheless I decided to make a nail polish cake for my 23rd birthday! In this post I'll show you the cake, of course, and then the process of making it. It's probably the best chocolate cake I've ever tasted, and better yet I kind of made it up. By "kind of" I mean I looked at lots of different recipes and took the best bits from each to make this cake of wonder. It's a really easy cake to make, too! I think I'll be using the recipe again for Christmas time (chocolate cake > fruit cake any day).

See, I said I'm no good at decorating! It's still better than a boring round one!

Okay, so are you ready for the best chocolate cake recipe ever? Here are the ingredients you'll need:

Cupcake nail art with hundreds & thousands!

I slightly altered my old version of cupcakes when I did these on a friend recently. Instead of using a glitter top coat for the sprinkles, I painted a bunch of tiny multi-coloured specks so that they looked like hundreds and thousands!

Here's my old tutorial, for those who missed it first time round :).

Nail Art Giveaway - $60 of products from KKCenterHk!

I have such an awesome giveaway starting today! KKCenterHk has kindly sponsored it, and there is a massive $60 US worth of prizes that one lucky person will win. I got to choose everything myself and there's a nice mix of everything in here. It's really easy to enter, just complete the Rafflecopter entry form below this picture! It's open internationally and will run for approximately a month, closing on the 5th November.

Now, in case you're not familiar with Rafflecopter giveaways I'll give you a run-down.
It's like a raffle. You want to get as many entries as possible, and in this giveaway you can get a maximum of 46 entries - entries which you gain by doing certain things (following on instagram, twitter, etc). Next to the entry you see how much it's worth; for example, if you like my Facebook page you'll get two entries.
So check out the entry options, go do all the things that you can and try get your entries as high as you can! I tried to make it pretty flexible, read the details for each entry.

Don't lie and say you've done it when you haven't - it's easy to tell if you haven't really done something and I'll just delete your entry if you win. Good luck, and feel free to ask any questions in the comments!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Nail Art + Tutorial

As most of you will have picked up on by now, October is breast cancer awareness month! I saw a post in a Facebook group I'm a part of saying that Friday the fourth is "Pink Friday," so I made a tutorial for these pink breast cancer awareness nails. As soon as I started filming I felt kind of bad, though. It's probably going to sound silly but I didn't want it to come across as just tagging on to with the hype when I actually know very little about it. I've got a friend who's mum's been diagnosed with breast cancer (which is awful, obviously) but I haven't seen either of them since before it happened so I haven't really been affected. But, as I say in the video, it's all about awareness so I figured I'd include in this blog post some NZ-specific facts about breast cancer.

Before I continue, though, aren't these nails cute? I thought they were going to fail for a bit there but I've got to say that I adore them. Pink, girly and supporting a cause = I like.

Feel free to watch my tutorial below - all my YouTube videos are pretty short, this one's three-minutes-something and if you're not already, please subscribe!

Two Nail Designs Using Studs from Born Pretty Store ♥

I've got two nail designs to show you today! One was done on my own nails and the other was on my friend's. I used studs from Born Pretty Store to glam these up a bit.

There are so many studs in this pack, and they come in both gold and silver!

350pcs 2mm Round Square Mix Stud Rhinestones Nail Art Decoration w/box

This pale green design was done to match my friend's outfit! Unfortunately some of the studs came off early - I mustn't have put enough top coat on them. The design is quite subtle and pretty, I think. Ladylike! I like how the criss-crosses in the background aren't that noticeable until you look again.

Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate Nails! My Cadbury Dream...

I found an awesome competition here in New Zealand recently. It's called Cadbury Dreams - they ask people what their dreams are and then make a few come true. There are sooo many entries - 10,000 so far! So I know I won't win, but hey, might as well try. I have heaps of dreams, so to choose just one was pretty hard. But the one I came up with was pretty awesome, I think - watch the video to see what it was ;).

The video and nails weren't really necessary but I figured I should give it my all. My dream's casually too expensive though, the ones that have won so far look to be around or less than $1000. Mine would be excellent for filming though - so visually exciting!
Anyway, so here's my cadbury chocolate nail art!

I don't love it, to be honest. I did the writing on the chocolate bars in the wrong place and the photos are pretty shocking. But oh well, I'll re-do them one day and make them better. Still kinda yum-looking!

Blue Tiger Stripes & Hearts with KKCenterHK Nail Polish

I recently received the most gorgeous blue glitter nail polish from KKCenterHk and I decided to do some nail art with it! I didn't really have a plan for them; I just kept going but thankfully they ended up looking alright!

I used two coats of the nail polish (EBALAY Baby Blue) over a black polish on my thumb and ring fingers. Then, being me, I had to add more... In came the hearts and tiger stripes! I then added a few sparkles to make all the nails link together.
