One Direction nail art (finally!)

1D nails have been requested so many times that I finally decided to do them. Personally, I'm no massive fan; can't call myself a "directioner" but I know most of the songs off their first album and quite like them. I was listening to "Taken" at the same time "Want U Back" by Cher Lloyd was popular, and I thought it was funny how they told different sides of the same story! Also, my friend casually went drinking with One Direction when they were on tour in New Zealand, not even kidding. But that's her story to tell so I'll leave that there.

Easter nail art - inspired by Robin Moses!

I decided it was time for some "proper" nail art. I've done heaps of designs lately that are within my comfort zone, and it was time for a challenge! As I often do in these circumstances, I turned to Robin Moses. She has so many awesome tutorials and they're all so original and unique! I tried out her "Easter bunny in grass with hidden eggs" design, which I'll embed further down. It was the first time I've used acrylic paint on my nails properly, and this time I loved it!

It was a very messy process though! Check out my hand when I was finally finished with the acrylic paint!

Little Monster's nail art tutorial!

I've noticed that for the last few months One Nail To Rule Them All has been doing "then and now" posts - and it's fascinated me! I've loved seeing the drastic improvements in skill and decided it was time to try it myself.
I also finally did another picture tutorial! I didn't do the written steps that I've had in all of my previous ones as I felt it wasn't really necessary, plus it filled in space that I could be using to teach people to credit correctly! (My favourite thing to do!).

Now for the comparison!
Here's the old picture...

Checkers, Cows, Marmite, French tips AND I painted my drawers!

I figured it was time to post again - I've been a bit slack lately, as I caught a cold that made the thought of sitting in a fume-filled room for an hour highly unappealing. However, I'm feeling better now and I thought I'd put a bunch of my recent designs in the same post. None of them warranted their own post; two of them are done on other people (so photos aren't as good), one isn't that exciting and one is so yesterday's news :P.

Here are my checkered nails that I did on a lovely client a week or so ago! She was my first proper client through Trade me and it was a great first experience, she was super nice :).

Here are my cow print nails that I painted on my friend! I've done these a few times before, here and here.

Winner of my Born Pretty Store giveaway!

I'm a bit late posting this - the winner replied almost instantly to her email and I kind of forgot to post about it! So sorry! I had updated the giveaway post, at least :D.

Congrats to Lena! She's got her voucher, and was a lovely, friendly winner to correspond with. Sorry to those that didn't win - better luck next time!

Neon Zebra print nail art tutorial - on YouTube!

Yay, I've finally got another YouTube video up! It was so incredibly painful to edit - I don't what's wrong, but Movie Maker wasn't working properly and most of the "editing" time was just spent waiting. I got there eventually though - at one o'clock in the morning!

I painted this design on my friend a little while ago, and had some tutorial requests - so here you are! I also have a marmite nails tutorial filmed, but because of the editing problems that may still be a while away.

Here it is! Still trying to get the thumbnails to work the way I want them to.

St. Patrick's day nail art - five different designs!

I have heaps of St. Patrick's day nails to show you! Last night was my friend's combined 21st/flatwarming/st paddy's day party, and I painted the nails of four of the girls plus me. The rules were that they had to have green in them!

Here are my friend's nails - she was dressed in the Irish flag too, so her nails matched her outfit very well! They aren't cleaned up very well - she had heaps to do that day so it was either make them perfect or decorate the house :P.

I did clovers, stripes and green glitter on her flatmate's nails - in hindsight I really should have done four leaved clovers!

Denim nails - zip decor review for Born Pretty Store

This is my favourite nail art product I've ever reviewed! I am definitely stocking up on them, I think they're so cool! It's the Zip Decor from Born Pretty Store. You can see it on the ring finger in the photo below, and on the thumb in the photo after that.

Left hand

I wasn't sure how I was going to use them at first - but then I found this tutorial and thought it was awesome! I adapted it a bit (might make a video tutorial on the way I did it) and was really pleased with the outcome. It looks so clean and perfect!

Pink graffiti nails!

I don't really know what to call these. They're water marbled, but they're also leopard print. They have dots and lines and squiggles and many colours. However, that'd make a rather long title, so I've called them pink graffiti nails. If anyone can think of a better name, let me know in the comments!

Again, these were initially water marbled nails - and one of the best attempts I'd ever had! However one nail didn't turn out as well as I liked, plus I felt like spending longer on them and do something more unique. I used several brand new polishes - so exciting! I won Sincerely Stephanie's nail art competition a while ago and got some gorgeous polishes from Harlow & Co!

BPS colour-changing nail polish review

Today I have another review for Born Pretty Store - Color changing nail polish! This is actually super cool. Of course, it has it's problems as well but I think the fact that it changes colour so dramatically makes it  worth the $7.84 (free shipping!).

The name Born Pretty Store has given it is New Magic Red/Pink Color Changing Mood Nail Polish Nail Art #6 so I thought it would change from red to pink. It turns out it's actually more of a dark pink to light pink - but it's a dramatic difference that had me audibly saying "wow!"

When I first applied this polish it was the medium-dark pink colour you see in the above picture - but it would probably vary according to the temperature. It's just turned Autumn here in New Zealand (although we're in a drought so it's still warm) and is around 25-28 degrees Celsius most days.
Cold water makes it go a little darker (but not red) and hot water turns it a cute baby pink! When I realised this I just had to show my husband and flatmate and for the next five minutes two twenty-something males were oohing and aahing over nail polish :P.

Tree of Life Ombre nails - inspired by Robin Moses

I haven't been posting as often as I'd like to recently, as my internet has gone to dial up speed until our plan resets on the 14th. Four days! It's been like this for about 10 days so far and has been torture. I have heaps more designs ready to show you but it is honestly such a mission to post stuff. Especially on all the different media sites I'm connected with.

Alright, so these nails were inspired by a Robin Moses tutorial. I'm a little bit in love with her talent. She's freaking incredible. I'm going to get some proper, thin acrylic paint at some point, apparently it's a bit easier to use. I have heaps of acrylic paint for when I do "actual" painting, but it's all cheap thick stuff and not much good for nail art. Robin Moses calls these nails "tree of life ombre nails;" I call them beautiful. You can find her tutorial for them here, but I've also embedded the video a bit further down.

Aren't they the cutest? And surprisingly simple to do, just a few lines, dots and glitter polish. My nails have grown since I did these (about two weeks ago apparently!) which I'm happy about. I'm not fond of huge nails but I like a decent-sized canvas.

My Marmite adventure - on TV and in the newspaper!

This post isn't purely about nail art, like most of my posts. It's about nail art, being on TV, being on the front page of the newspaper, Christchurch, and most of all - Marmite! The last couple of weeks have been amazing, and yesterday was one of the best days of my life. First off - this is proper New Zealand Marmite we're talking about, not the UK stuff. Or Vegemite! They are very different spreads, the main difference being that Marmite is delicious and Vegemite tastes like vomit (I wrote that just for you, Campbell!).

This post is also meant for my family and friends, as it's too much to cram into a Facebook status! As I don't see everyone in person, so figured this was the best way to do it.

So I'll start from the beginning. In February 2011, Christchurch, a beautiful big city in New Zealand (and the Marmite capital) was hit by a devastating earthquake that killed 185 people. It was a huge, tragic shock to the entire nation, and I still remember staring at the little 14" TV at my dad's work completely dumbstruck. You can read more about it in my original post here. A few months later the Marmite factory had to be closed as it wasn't safe, and for the last year New Zealand has been in short supply of it's beloved Marmite. People were auctioning off their last jars on Trade me, going for up to 5 times the retail price!

In December last year I was doing a nail art challenge that some friends and I made up, and one of the days was "inspired by your country." There were plenty of different options, but I decided to paint my nails as little jars of Marmite, as that was a kiwiana thing that I loved and missed!

And thus, my Marmite nails were born...

I didn't think much of it at the time - I was pretty happy with them (although I couldn't do both hands at this stage) and continued with the challenge. I've done some more NZ-themed nail art too, Pohutukawas, the New Zealand flagPukekos and the Sky Tower
