New Years/Fireworks Nail Art Tutorial | 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge

It's the last day of the 12 days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge! Wow, what a month. I've made 13 YouTube tutorials in the last 31 days - three-four times my usual amount, and I loved it! (Except for that last one...). I understand so much more about YouTube now, and am slowly figuring out my new lighting set up. Slowly. I may have to rearrange my entire room again but we'll get there eventually.

You may know that we've had heaps of people from around the world taking part in this challenge. I've been tagged in hundreds of photos which I've been uploading to this Facebook album of everyone's recreations. It's so cool! So I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in it - we'll definitely have to do it again next year (but with a shorter title!).

Here's my final tutorial for the challenge - Fireworks! Please subscribe to my channel ☺.

Easy Christmas Tree Nail Art Tutorial | 12 Days of Christmas nail art challenge

12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge - Day 11, Christmas Sparkle.

Every now and again, maybe one in every 70 times, I don't enjoy the process of painting my nails. I normally love it. But when I don't like it... I hate it. These were an example of such nails.

Cute right? Wrong. Here's a list of all the things that failed

1) I didn't initially have a clear design in mind so changed the design part-way-through, meaning the tutorial is inconsistent.
2) I had to wait two hours for the polish to dry so I could use striping tape, and while doing so managed to bump my nails several times, leading to a LONGER waiting time. I never do this normally!
3) Fighting with striping tape. I swear I am never touching that stuff again in my life.
4) When filming the intro for the tutorial, my husband and his friends were being incredibly loud in the other room, cars kept driving past and I became completely incapable of saying more than three words in a row without tripping over them. I had so much footage but the best I had (and had to put in the final video) included me saying the word "fart." Great.
5) Editing. Took a good 50-100% longer than my last video, plus the boys were being loud outside my nail room (only for a short time though). They were happy loud, I should add, so that part was actually okay.
7) My ears are sore from wearing my editing headphones so long, and I still have another tutorial to edit.
6) Now the internet's barely working.

So basically it was such a pain and I couldn't believe how ridiculously cute the nails actually turned out to be when I reviewed my photos the next day - I had removed them as soon as I was finished filming, I was that frustrated at them.

Here's the tutorial. Sub sub sub please! Recently hit 2k - THANK YOU! Honestly you have no idea how much that means to me. I want to sprinkle all my followers with glitter and chocolate sprinkles.

Santa and Friends Nail Tutorial | 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge

My internet is crawling at snail speed. Took about 15 minutes to upload these photos and considering it's almost midnight (at the time of writing this), I'm not too impressed! And I can't even save this post so I'll have to leave it open and publish it in the morning. At least it's a lovely quiet night - and only 24 hours 'til Christmas! This is my favourite tutorial from my Christmas series - it's only just over three minutes long but it has three different nail designs in it.

Of course, this is for day 10 of the 12 days of Christmas nail art challenge. The theme for today is "Santa and friends." I have loved doing this challenge! The best part of it for me was spending a whole month learning more about YouTube. In that time I've gotten new lighting, a microphone and am getting much quicker at that dreaded thing called editing. Hopefully this time next year I'll be able to talk properly too :P.
Here's the design...

And here's the tutorial. I know you can probably find tutorials for these characters individually all over the internet, but I think the three of them together make a cute team. Plus you only need to watch one tutorial this way! Here it is, and please hit that subscribe button!

Christmas Lights Nail Art Tutorial | 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge

Only three designs left in the 12 days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge! Next time I do something like this I am DEFINITELY giving it a shorter name. So, today's theme is "Christmas decorations." I was initially going to do baubles but realised that I hadn't done Christmas lights in a really long time, plus this way I could use glow in the dark polish.

There's a picture of them glowing after the jump break.
Here's the tutorial - please subscribe :).

Snowflake Nail Art Tutorial | 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge

The best and worst thing about living in New Zealand is that Christmas is in the middle of Summer. It means that all the snowman, sleigh and woolly coat references are completely irrelevant. Our poor Santas sit in shopping malls boiling up in big red coats while everyone else is in shorts and t-shirt. Sweaty Santa - good look. However it means that after Christmas lunch we can lay in the sun in a semi-conscious slumber. Or go for a walk on the beach, or run around playing Rugby (HA, well maybe not me for that last one). Anyway, so I felt a bit silly doing snowflakes for today's challenge, but it had to be done! I actually really like this design, and painting snowflakes in general. They look like nothing and then all of the sudden they look so intricate and pretty! This is my easiest nail art tutorial for Christmas this year so far, so I'd definitely recommend it.

Here's the tutorial! Please subscribe to my channel - I have a whole playlist of Christmas designs and heaps of other ones too.

Love Actually Nail Art Tutorial | 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge

Day seven of the challenge! Only five days to go - and the rest of the challenges are only every three days, not two. Looks like smooth sailing from here on out!

Today's theme is "Inspired by a Christmas movie." I have done quite enough "obviously Christmas" nails lately so I decided to go for Love Actually - still a Christmas movie but a little more low-key! Here are the nails I came up with.

Here's the tutorial - please subscribe!

Christmas Elf Nail Art Tutorial | 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge

Today is day six of the 12 days of Christmas nail art challenge! The theme is "Santa's workshop and his list." As I did a list for the last challenge, I had to use the workshop theme instead. I had SO MUCH trouble deciding on what to do! I swear it's so much harder when you're doing a tutorial as well - normally I'd twist my hands all over the place but it's a lot harder when you have to keep them still for the camera. I was thinking of doing a conveyor belt with presents and elves all around but I just knew that would take roughly 17 million years so decided on just the one elf. The presents around it were kind of just an extra. Here's the picture I was inspired by and used to guide me while painting.

To be honest I didn't really like these. I don't know what it is - maybe because they got a bit crowded on the left hand or they just took sooo long, or maybe it's that I'm just over Christmas colors at the moment. I spent a good three hours filming and painting these only to remove them an hour later! They do have their charm, though - I like the elf.

It's kind of funny; I'm my own biggest critic and decide how good I think a design or YouTube video is. Like for this one, I don't really like the design but the video's okay as I have clear speech and lighting FINALLY (although I need to play around a bit more). But if I don't like either I'm not at all surprised when I get a couple of dislikes, in fact I'm completely befuddled as to why there are any likes on some/most of my videos at all! Take my first one, for example! However, if I've made up my mind that I like a certain video/design and it gets a dislike I'm like "pfft, you're just wrong," or write it off as being someone who's either mad that they couldn't pull it off or they don't like me in "real life." I guess I'm a little stubborn or opinionated or something ;). Rant over.

Here's the tutorial - please subscribe!

Santa's List Nail Art Tutorial | 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge

Today is the 10th here in New Zealand - day five of the 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge! Today's theme is "Inspired by a Christmas Carol/Song," and after a lot of thought (and humming way too many Christmas songs) I chose "Santa Claus is coming to town". In case you're not familiar with this song, click here to listen to it - Mariah Carey style.

I chose to portray these lyrics on my nails;
He's making a list
He's checking it twice
Gonna find out who's naughty and nice

And here they are!

They're not my favourite of my Christmas nails, but they are a bit different, which is good. I like to mix things up every now and again and try something new - I get too comfortable doing the 'same old' and never get any better that way.

Here's the tutorial - as usual, please subscribe if you're not already! Heading on 2000 subscribers now, which is pretty awesome, so thanks to everyone who watches my videos and is subbed to me!

Ocean Scene Nail Art Tutorial

Ocean scene nails! Or fish tank, or Nemo nails. Take your pick.
I realised I had a couple of days spare between my Christmas designs, so finally finished editing this video and posted it to YouTube. Success!

I first did these nails about a year ago, in the last Christmas challenge. They were pretty popular and I really liked how they turned out, so naturally a tutorial was going to come eventually!

Here it is, I hope you like it! Please subscribe to my channel if you're not already ☺.

Kiwi Christmas Nail Art Tutorial | 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge

It's the seventh of December - we're up to day four of the 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge!

Today's theme is "Christmas where you live." I've had a few questions about this one, so I'll quickly explain what it means. It's a very flexible challenge; just show on your nails what Christmas is like where you are. This could mean something about your country, your house, your town - whatever. It can also be what Christmas means to you, or special memories that you relate to Christmas time.

For me, I chose to represent a New Zealand Christmas. It took me ages to decide on the exact design though - there are so many parts to a Kiwi Christmas! I had at least two other designs I was really close to doing, but ended up choosing this one. Our Christmas is in the first month of Summer, which means that Christmas here is synonymous to holidays, warmth, sun, beaches and the outdoors. It's fantastic. I decided to paint a beach scene, with a big ole' kiwi (wearing a Santa hat - see my inspiration here) in the middle of it. To the sides I added branches from Pohutukawa trees (known as the New Zealand Christmas tree) and on the thumb, I wrote the words "Merry Xmas."

Hmm. Just realised that none of the main photos actually show my thumb! I had issues taking photos today - it's a bit grey and ugly (still warm though). You can see my thumb in the tutorial, though, and in the bottom photo in this post.

Here's the tutorial! Please subscribe and 'like' my video, it really helps me get my tutorials out there :).

Here's the other hand! As usual, I did this one first to learn the best way to do the design before filming it. That's why the beach is covered up by the pohutukawas in this one!
I just realised that the reflection makes it look like the kiwi is smiling - cute.

Christmas Present Nail Art Tutorial | 12 Days Of Christmas Nail Art Challenge

It's the third of December; time for day two of the 12 days of Christmas nail art challenge! There was much less stress involved in getting this post up - everything was filmed and edited on the 2nd, phew :).
Check out my last post here.

On a side note, it's my husbands birthday today! I was talking about how the theme for today was wrapping paper and presents, and kept repeating, "third of December, third of December." Suddenly he chimes in "...and that's my birthday, too?!" Oops. Worst wife award right here.

Anyway, so here are the nails I came up with for today - Christmas presents!

Kind of cute, eh? I had to think long and hard about what I was going to do for these - I wanted to do something different, but still easy enough that I could make a tutorial for it. These were spot on, and here's the tutorial. Please subscribe :).

Beach Nail Art Tutorial

Back in May I entered a competition called Beauty and the Beach, and painted a beach scene on one nail. You can see that here. I decided to make a tutorial out of that one nail - unfortunately (as usual) I had completely forgotten how I had achieved the look the first time around! I remembered afterwards that I had actually used acrylic paint for it, which is why it was so well-blended. No worries, either way I ended up with these beach nails and a tutorial to go with it!

You can watch it here, and please subscribe!

Christmas Tree Nail Art Tutorial | 12 Days Of Christmas Nail Art Challenge

Oh my goodness I'm getting this post up so late! It's almost 10pm here on the 1st of December - it just snuck up on me! So today is the first day of the 12 days of Christmas nail art challenge. BY THE WAY - the hashtag I'll be using for this is #12daysnailchallenge (hehe snail challenge) - so if you do these, post them on Instagram and Twitter with that hash tag. And preferably tag me @naileditnz in case I don't see them. Make sure your profile is public! I'll be putting all the nails into an album on Facebook.

Right, so because of my disorganization I had to remove my nails I spent hours on yesterday to do these, which was a bit of a waste. And then for some reason I then committed to making a tutorial for each design I do as well! So this month will definitely be a big challenge for me.

Enough talking; here are my Christmas tree nails!

And here's the tutorial. Please subscribe!

Literary Lacquers Nail Polish Review - Five Stunning Indies!

When I approached Amy from Literary Lacquers about the possibility of her sponsoring my giveaway, not only did she say a big YES (check out the giveaway and what she contributed here) but also sent me five polishes to review! I chose them myself from her Etsy site - and oh my goodness it was hard to choose! There are so many pretties on there. I finally settled on:

And now I'm going to share them with you! Today I just have swatches of them, but I plan to create some (hopefully awesome) nail art with them in the near future.

First we have Midsummer Night's Dream. This is my favourite out of the lot; I just adore it. It reminds me a lot of van Gogh's Starry Night - the colours are just perfect. In these photos I have two coats of Midsummer Night's Dream on my index and ring fingers, and one coat over black on the middle and pinky nails.

 Here's a picture with the bottle ☺.

Basic Nail Care

I realised it's been way too long since I put a video up, so here's one I filmed a couple of weeks ago! It's my basic nail care routine. I'm sure it's not perfect but it does me just fine -simple, quick and painless!

Here's where you can buy some of the stuff I used - I had to choose similar things as unfortunately a lot of my nail care stuff I bought from fairs or in my town.

Hope it's helpful! Having well-presented, healthy nails makes your nail art look twice as good!

Nailed it NZ Meets Celebrity Nail Stylist Leah Light!

Some of you may know that I have many wild and crazy dreams regarding my nail hobby. Most of them involve spending the rest of my life doing what I love - and preferably getting paid for it. A year ago I heard of the term "Celebrity Nail Artist." These people are nail stylists who are known for painting celebrities nails and/or who are celebrities themselves for their fabulous work. I quietly added this ambition to my long list of "things I want to be when I grow up" (yes I'm 23, shh) and left it alone, assuming I couldn't get to that level unless I moved to America. But then a few months ago, I heard of Leah Light. She's a nail stylist from Auckland and does all the local and international celebrities nails (Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Rachel Hunter) when they're here - and she's a bit of one herself! I was suddenly set on meeting this woman. Considering I'm training in 2014, I wanted to get the best start possible, and she sounded like the perfect mentor! It was time to start entering competitions; I'm dirt poor and couldn't afford the plane ticket up there, let alone getting my nails done by her - so it had to be something I won. If you follow my blog, you'll probably know that I've had an amazingly high hit rate with competitions this year. I don't even enter that many, promise! Both the Marmite one and The Social Games I just saw advertised on Facebook or something; this one was the first time I had actively sought out a competition!

I found a comp run by NewsTalk ZB and ASB Bank called "Sowing the seeds of Success." It was all about helping kiwis succeed, and I essentially got to choose the prize I wanted. I wanted to meet Leah Light! I excitedly entered, told my story... and promptly forgot about it. It's kind of what I do, so I don't feel let down when I don't win. However, it made for a very awkward conversation when a radio host rung me up at 7.50am and a) I didn't know who the heck he was and b) I wasn't sure what I had entered, let alone won. Honestly the most hilariously terrible conversation ever. This guy (Mike Hosking) was like "I'm Mike Hosking... Mike Hosking... Mike Hosking" and I'm just completely lost. I twigged on that I was on the radio after a while and then got excited when I heard Leah's name, but boy it was bad, but in a funny way. I meant to ban it to the depths of the internet, but because I fail at life I managed to post it to my personal facebook wall, which promptly got shared amongst friends and fellow nail addicts. Sigh. Anyway, all that really mattered is that I won! I was going to meet Leah Light!

10,000 FB Followers Nail Giveaway ♥ SIXTEEN WINNERS!

It's finally here! Today I woke up to an incredible 10,010 Facebook Fans - thank you so much for all your support over the last 18 months! I decided I needed to do something extra special to say thank you, so here it is...
I've been planning this giveaway for a long time and I must say that it's easily my best one yet. In fact, it's better than all my past ones combined! TEN sponsors, SIXTEEN winners & countless nail polishes, jewelley and supplies up for grabs. Before I continue, though, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone that has sponsored this giveaway. I had such a fantastic response - there's at least $500 NZ worth of nail-related goodies here. There are such generous people in the nail community! While you're scrolling through the prizes, racing to enter, please stop check out each of the sponsor's Facebook pages, which will be linked below each picture. These are the people that made this giveaway happen ☺.

A couple of things to be aware of - please read!
There are TWO giveaways on this page - one for everyone (international) and one for New Zealanders only. You can enter these giveaways through the Rafflecopter widgets - and since there are two giveaways there are two widgets. After the first 12 pictures of prizes there is the first one, where anyone can enter. At the very bottom of the post (after the last four prize pictures) there is the second, New Zealand-only one. If you're not in New Zealand please don't enter through that one, but go ahead and enter the first! New Zealanders can enter both giveaways. Sorry if it sounds confusing, but it's quite important!

More details on how to enter will be further down, but now it's time to introduce the prizes! Feel free to share these pictures, the link and the excitement anywhere you want!

Audrey Hepburn Nail Art

Today I have some Audrey Hepburn nail art to show you! First things first though; I can't take any credit for how cool the pictures of Audrey are. They're water decals that I'm reviewing from KKCenterHk, which you can buy here. Aren't they amazing?!

I painted the border on the nails with the decals on them, then sponged on a couple of shades of grey (not 50) on the other nails and added the words. I had three Audrey Hepburn quotes to choose out of; here they are:
1) Paris is always a good idea.
2) Happy girls are the prettiest.
3) The best thing to hold on to in life is each other.
I asked for help choosing on Facebook, and the clear winner was number two!

How To Paint Your Nails With Your Non-Dominant Hand

This post is just letting you know that I have a new video up on YouTube! Here's the beautiful design that I did for it...

Just kidding. It's clearly not a normal tutorial; it's one on how to paint your nails with your non-dominant hand! In my case, how to paint your right hand with your left. This was something I had a lot of trouble with when I first started nail art, so I made this little tutorial to help out nail art beginners. It shows how to position your hands to make it easier, as well as some other tips I've picked up along the way.

Here it is, and if you're not already, please subscribe :).

Hunger Hearts - Effie Trinket Nail Art!

I got this cute little container of hearts to play around with from KKCenterHk, and ended up with the most extreme, colourful and over-the-top nail art ever! They looked like something you'd find in the Capitol (from The Hunger Games) and in particular, on Effie Trinket's nails.

While I identify with Katniss more, I still LOVE these nails! They stayed on really well too; I decided to change my nails four days later and they were still perfect - not even any tip wear.
I'll have a tutorial for these coming soon on YouTube - it's second on my to-do list.

12 Days Of Christmas Nail Art Challenge

Update: If you want your design put into my Facebook album for this, tag me on Instagram @naileditnz (preferably tag me IN the photo in case I miss it in my news feed). Alternatively, post it to my facebook wall or put your link at the link-up at the bottom of each post. See all of my posts here!

I love nail art challenges! Last year Anjali (From L&P To English Tea), Hannah (AGirlWithSomeClothes) and I made the 31 day nail art challenge (Take Two) for the month of December. One design a day! While I did come up with HEAPS of cool designs that month, it was also a wee bit stressful trying to do one each day. So this year, we decided to make a new one.
Introducing the 12 Days of Christmas Nail Art Challenge!

We thought carefully about the different days and the order, and think this will make for a really good challenge, with plenty of variety! We tried to make it in somewhat chronological order, and made sure that on the 27th (when you're probably too busy clearing up/getting home to do something intricate) we had a simple challenge that can be interpreted however you like.
Just in case anyone can't see the picture (and for SEO purposes, of course!) here's the list in non-image form:

How To Paint Your Nails Professionally

This video was surprisingly quick to edit! Half an hour, tops! And I think it'll be really helpful to those who want to clean up their nail painting job. I remember when I first watched a video on how to do this and it just opened my eyes so much. That was the point where my nail art dramatically changed quality. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find that video since, and all the others I've seen are quite long and drawn-out so I felt there was a need for a short, to-the-point one. Hope you like it!

Cheap Nail Polish Review - Jordana, Kleancolor, Mode, Sinful Colors & Many More.

I made a heap of videos in the weekend, unfortunately making them is the fun part and editing takes forever. I finally managed to get one edited and it's uploading as I write this. It's a review of all the cheap nail polish brands I own - lacquer under the $7 mark (that's cheap in New Zealand).

I'll give a full list of the nail polish brands I reviewed here, in the order they appear on the video:

LA Colors
LA Girl
LA Colors Art Deco
Jordana Pop Art
Charm Max & M Eizilan
Sinful Colors

Watch my review and see what rating I gave each brand out of ten in my video, here. Please subscribe if you're not already! I've got these videos coming soon:
- How to paint your nails professionally
- How to do nail art using your non-dominant hand
- Basic nail care
- Beach nail art tutorial

P.S: This video felt so much weirder to edit than usual. Normally I just do an intro - "Hi I'm Jessie from Nailed it NZ blah blah blah... look see nails... tutorial now." It's weird spending the whole time in front of the camera.

Peacock Pie Review - Butterfly Nail Polish Ring!

There are a lot of creative people in New Zealand, and I'm pretty sure most of them are in a Facebook group I belong to. It's full of kiwis who love nail polish and everything to do with it. Several have started their own businesses related to their obsession, and one of these people is Serra from Peacock Pie!

Not only is Serra a lovely person, but she makes the most beautiful jewellery. Here's a gorgeous ring she gave me to review for her. I got to request the design and colours myself, as anyone can :).

Isn't it cute? I'm excited to wear it to work so the kids I look after can admire it. Nail polish jewelley is so unique - with so many polishes and designs to chose from you can never run out of ideas.

The ring has a diameter of 2cm and sits about a centimeter above your finger at the highest point (it's dome shaped).

Here's a screenshot of Peacock Pie's etsy shop, which you can click here to visit! She has really good prices - only $9 NZ for this beautifully hand-crafted and personally designed ring. She also sells pendants that you could make into necklaces.

Four Nail Designs - The Great Gatsby, Hello Kitty (times two!) & Super Girly Nails.

I do my friend's nails every now and again, but always feel a bit at a loss as to when or how to publish them - together or separately? Today I realised I had a bunch of designs sitting in folders that had been there for months just waiting for me to do something. They were always back-ups, in case I randomly didn't want to paint my nails for a few weeks but still needed something to post. However, in the last 18 months this has not happened once (no surprises there) so I figured I might as well just post these nail designs in bulk. They're pretty cool ones too - my friends have some good ideas!

Catching Fire Nail Art, Quotes & Tutorial

I'm a Hunger Games fan. Not a "oh yeah, the movie was pretty cool" kind of fan, but the type who has read all the books three times, watched the movie five times, read the companion guide, has a mockingjay necklace and has painted her nails with Hunger Games designs three times (here, here, here). Oh wait, make that four counting today's nails. I could write an essay about the deeper meaning of the Hunger Games - war, mental illness, drug dependency, inequality and so much more. If I was single my entire room would most likely be decked out in Hunger Games apparel. So, I clearly didn't do these nails to follow current trends (not that there's anything wrong with that); The Hunger Games series is basically part of who I am. I have laughed and cried along with that series - I'm an avid reader and no book has ever left such a lasting mark on me. Plus Jennifer Lawrence seems like the funniest, most "normal" actress in the world!

Catching Fire comes out in a few weeks and of course, I cannot WAIT! I decided to do some more Hunger Games nails to go with the new movie. I had a very specific design in mind, and wasn't sure if I could pull it off. Last time I tried painting the mockingjay symbol on my nails it wasn't that great, plus I had never dry marbled before today and needed to look up tutorials to figure it out. I ended up watching one by midniteblue716, here, which was really good!
Here's the final result...

Gotta say, I'm in love. For once, the right hand turned out better than the left, too! So strange when that happens. I'll show you proper photos of that soon, but first, here's the tutorial. Please subscribe to keep up-to-date with my videos!

Stained Glass Nail Art Tutorial + Maybelline Colour Show Sequins Collection

Today I've got some beautiful new Maybelline New York Color Show polishes to show you, as well as a new nail tutorial. The polishes are from their new Sequins collection and were perfect for this look!

From left to right, top to bottom the colours are:
Sea-Quins, Rose Bling, Silver Gleam and Gold's Night out.

I wanted to create a design that could incorporate all four colours, and this is what I ended up with. Hope you like it! Of course, it's essentially a colour block mani but I asked on Facebook for other names and stained glass was the most popular. I think it works!

Halloween Nail Art Tutorials - Ghost, Jack-O-Lantern & Skeleton!

Where did the month go? One minute I was shocked it was the 1st of October and now it's the 30th! I realised I really needed to get the picture versions of my Halloween nail tutorials out ASAP, as it'll be too late soon. Normally I'd do a separate post for each of these designs but because of the lack of days left in October I'm publishing them all together - which will be handy for anyone looking for Halloween nail art tutorials!

First up, here's how to do my Ghost nails.

The first post I made about these little ghosties is here, and you can watch the YouTube tutorial & subcribe below!

Halloween Skeletons - Nail Art Tutorial

One last tutorial for the Halloween season! I decided to do one for these skeleton nails that are always popping up around the internet. I've done them on a friend before, which you can find here - I called them "skull nails" at the time.

Here's the tutorial! Also YouTube recently released this handy little subscribe button - hit it, you know you want to...

Jack-O-Lanterns - Nail Art Tutorial

More Halloween nail art! I did these Jack-O-Lanterns yesterday and managed to edit the video today, which I'm pretty happy with. These initially were going to be quite simple but I couldn't help but add more as I went along! Although I couldn't fit a mouth on (because of my wee little nubbins) I'm happy with how these turned out. Some of the pumpkins actually look quite sweet - like the ring finger one!

 Here's the tutorial.

Halloween Ghosts - Nail Art Tutorial

I wore these ghost nails last week and loved them! Better yet, they're surprisingly easy to do and are great for Halloween. It's crazy how much easier it is to do nail art when you know each step to take! So naturally, I did a YouTube tutorial for them, and a picture one will be up at some stage too.

Like most of my videos, it's short and sweet - less than 2:30! Let me know what you think of it. I reckon these ghosts would look super cute in multiple colours. I considered doing that but thought it might look too much like Pac-Man, and since it's coming up to the 31st October I figured I should stick to the Halloween theme.

On a side note, I applied for nail school today! I'm so happy and excited and just wish February would hurry up and come around! I still have to wait four whole months -_-.

10 things I Learned From The Edge Social Games

Quick run down; in case you missed it, last month I was selected by a New Zealand radio station called The Edge to be part of something called the Social Games. I was one of ten contestants that lived in a house for up to three weeks with constant web-cam surveillance - big brother style. We had many challenges to participate in, which helped us win things (immunity, facebook credit, mobile phones for fans, etc) and had to get as many votes as possible. We were aged from 18-27;  I was second-oldest at 23. Seven were single, three were in relationships, and there was a mixture of straight, gay and bi sexualities. Oh, and there was $20,000 up for grabs ;).

It was an experience, to say the least! I was originally going to write a play-by-play account of what happened, but not only would it be biased but a bit irrelevant now. Then I thought I'd make a list of big things that happened, but really that did nothing but fuel (old) gossip and entertain for the wrong reasons. So I've decided to write about what I in particular learned from the Social Games - about myself and other people, in list form. It's still going to be completely biased and whatnot, but hey, my blog, my rules.

Here are a couple of promotional pictures that were taken (there was also a TV commercial which I can't seem to find). I'm the one on the right being strangled by the guy who ended up winning - good move on his part, I guess!

Sunflower Nail Art - Picture Tutorial!

As you may know, I'm in the process of making picture tutorials out of all my YouTube ones! Here's my latest one - sunflower nails. Floral designs are some of my favourites, and sunflowers are my favourite flowers so it's only natural that this is one of my favourite manicures! Hope you like the tutorial - and I've embeded the YouTube version further down.

Tribal Nail Art In Blue, Green & Yellow

These took a long time! And considering I started off this nail-painting session thinking, "I don't want to do anything too complicated" it was a bit ironic. However, I was happy with the result and it was a chance to try out my new acrylic paints!

So, more tribal nails. Tribal print in general is one of my all-time favourite designs to do on my nails; I've done them several times before - here, here, here, here and here. These ones were inspired by the instagram user @danicaj who has some amazing nail art! Make sure sure you go subscibe to her - and me while you're at it - @naileditnz! The exact design I used for inspiration is here, but I changed the colours and had to make up the thumb nail as it wasn't present in her photo.

Nail art for kids - ladybugs, bright brushstrokes and roses.

I've had these tucked away in my computer for ages now, and today seems like a good day to bring them out! Here are three manicures I've done on children in the last few months.

The first set are a copy of these nails that I did on myself ages ago. However I didn't have a sponge this time so I just used the nail polish brush to create the effect here. Glad it still looked okay!

Ladybugs are always a popular choice for kid's nail art :).

Poppy Flower Water Decals From KKCenterHk

I have these cute poppy water decals from KKCenterHk, and decided to try them out yesterday. As I hadn't used water decals like this before and wasn't 100% sure on how to use them, I checked the website. It ended up being quite an entertaining experience - it didn't have instructions but it did say "Little beetle want to try morning glory's honey, they are keep close very slowly and quietly. Let's try to DIY your nails. When you finish, sharing this with your friends." Right :P.

The picture below shows the sheet they came on - I ended up cutting each strip into three pieces, so I could have three nails done on each hand. I probably could have stretched it to four nails, and those with smaller nails could get it on all their nails if they were careful when cutting them out.

By the way, this is one of the items I'm giving away for my KKCenterHk giveaway, which closes in early October. It's really easy to enter, check it all out here!
