Water-marble nail art

I've probably done water-marble nails more times than any other nail art design. Mostly because I'm just not that great at it, and want to keep trying. I can never make it consistent! It just looks so cool when all the nails look similar but I can't do it! I guess I'll just have to accept that my marbles are always going to be a little crazy :P.

Before I continue - two YAY moments; One is that tomorrow Cats'n'nails and myself are swapping guest posts! So check out both our blogs to see what we've come up with. The second is that my Rafflecopter giveaway has been fixed! It wasn't working for some people (like me!), so I contacted them and they fixed the problem. They seem to be really nice people too, so if you're going to do a giveaway, USE THEM! :D

The colours I used for this were all from good brands, which is kind of unusual for me. My theory was that OPI and China Glaze are much more likely to work for water-marbling than my $2 shop polishes - and I was right. The first time I tried this (warning: they're terrible) I went through every single one of my then-70 polish collection, and only three of four spread out on the water. But all of my China Glaze and OPI ones that I have now do :).

Right, so I used:
OPI: Gouda Gouda Two Shoes
OPI: Suzi Loves Cowboys
China Glaze: Purr-fect Plum

Guest post from A Girl with some Clothes - matching nails and outfit!

This is the very first guest post on Nailed it NZ! And considering who's doing it, it's quite fitting.
I found the blog"A girl with some clothes" about seven months ago, and thought it was awesome - especially the nails! I saved it in my favourites and checked it out every few days. It wasn't until several weeks later that I realised that I actually knew the girl who owned it her in real life! Yeah, I felt a bit dumb there...
So, let me introduce Hannah from A girl with some clothes, who was one of the main reasons I started my own blog :)

I'm never quite sure what to write/photograph for "guest posts"
I want to have something that caters to and fits with the style of the blog I'm guest posting on... But I also want something that will be a reflection of my passion and my blog...

Because I love and respect Nailed It NZ I wanted a really cool manicure that would make Jessie proud
and as my blog initially started as a fashion outfit-of-the-day blog I wanted something that fitted with that...
Thus was born, my Matching Manicure...

This manicure is inspired by my new pants and shoes (you lot are the first to see them!)

Born Pretty Store - Rhinestones kit review!

I always thought that 3D nail art was kind of tacky, and couldn't possibly ever look nice. But after this and my previous studded mani I am changing my mind!

Born Pretty Store was awesome and let me choose something from their online store to review. I've already bought quite a bit from them in the past few months and liked it, so I was super keen! I decided to go for something a little different - rhinestones!

*Note* The exact kit I reviewed has been discontinued by BPS, so I have replaced the links with a similar (better!) one. There are a few extra things in the new kit, check it out here.

And omg, there are a million of them. Possibly a billion. Okay, maybe not that much, but there are A LOT.

Here's the first nail art design I've done with them.

I love it! I'll do a pros and cons list and a mini-tutorial later in this post.

Before that though, here's a picture of all the stuff I got. As you can see, there are round, star-shaped and heart-shaped rhinestones, in heaps of different colours. I think they'll last me a while!
The set came with those tweezers things and two tubes of nail glue. I didn't find the nail glue very useful I must say. The tweezers are pretty cool though, very sturdy, they feel like good quality. They're good for getting the pieces out of the container, but I used an orange stick dipped in clear polish to put the pieces on my nails. Easier to control.

The 31 Day Nail Art Challenge - TAKE TWO! Who wants to join?

PLEASE NOTE: There is now a tab for this! See "TAKE TWO" - it's at the end next to "Tumblr."

Just a quick post to see if anyone else is keen for this.
My friends at From L&P to English Tea and A Girl with some Clothes and I decided we wanted to do the 31 day nail art challenge - but do a new one. The old one's been done heaps, and we thought it was time for a change. So, we made our own!

We kept our favourites from the old one and added a bunch of new ideas. We're all New Zealanders (although one's in England at the moment) and wanted to do some kiwi-pride ones, which is why there's a few country-related challenges.

We're going to do this officially from the 1st-31st December, and as you can see, there are some that work specifically for those dates - like the Christmas theme is the 25th and New Years is the 31st. I just realised it's quite fitting that number 21 is galaxy nails - isn't the world supposed to end on the 21st December this year? Haha!

Anyway, the point of this post is, who wants to join? The plan is to get a bunch of people to do it and we can all post links to the blogs of other people who are doing it too. Exposure plus fun!
An added bonus is that it's not starting for a month and a half. Which gives you all plenty of time to get ahead, maybe paint the first 10 or so, so don't have to be a maniac like me and change your nails every day.

Comment if you're keen, and we'll somehow organise it! Maybe email me? Jeez, idk...
I'm nick-naming this "take two" by the way, "31 day nail art challenge" is such a mouthful!

Oh, I'm making a button to stick in my sidebar that'll link to this post. So if you're going to do it, add it too! The more the merrier!
It'll look like this:

If you want to join in, add your blog in here!

Calling for guest posts! + some pretty nails

Hey guys - I'm doing a guest post for Nails like Lace in a few weeks and she gave me the idea to ask for guest bloggers on here. I have exams until early-mid November, so it'd be a good way for me to get some time to study.

So - who wants to do a guest post? I'd like to have a few ready to publish in November but I'm flexible. Preferably just nail art or nail related, but maybe something else... just comment if you have an idea.
If you're keen, email me - you can get my email addy in the "contact me" tab. I'd put it in this post, but there's a pretty high chance I'll make an email specifically for this blog soon, and knowing me I'd forget about it being in here and I'd have two accounts getting emails :/.

Right, so here's a bunch of nail art I've done lately but haven't put up until now. Normally I'd give them individual posts, but with study etc I have less time to spend on here.

This first one makes me think of a mermaids tail. I really like it! Bizarre Blurple is the base colour, with Make   A Spectacle over the top (both by China Glaze). The french tip (or whatever you call it when it's not white) is just done with a black polish, I think it was Jordana.

Bizarre Blurple is SUCH a pain to photograph, so this next photo shows the differences in how it appears. Still pretty though.

My first studded manicure

I've seen a lot of amazing studded manis on The Nailasaurus's website, so I decided to give it a try myself. I ordered these from Born Pretty Store, and while they took awhile to arrive I LOVE them! I did quite a simple pattern, as I was kind of guessing how to do it, but studs are now my new favourite kind of nail art!

Here's the stuff I used:
Cutex - Nail Whitener (base coat)
Revlon - Hot for Chocolate
Jordana - Yellow Out Topcoat
2mm Gold studs
One Orange stick (that wooden thing)
Brush and cotton buds for clean up

I have to say, I LOVE that Cutex base coat. I ran out of both top and base coat last week and went on a hunt to find some good new ones. As you may have read about in this post, my nails are kind-of-really-super gross at the moment. Or, as someone called them, "colourful" :).

Having stained nails doesn't actually harm them, but it looks gross. I've been trying a million different ways to make them look better, and while they're better than they used to be I haven't been keen to wear them in public.

Until now.

A-Z about me!

I promised myself that I wouldn't blog about my nails until I'd finished my current (and final!!) essay - but, I found a way around that :D. I found a post on my friend's blog that I really wanted to do, so here it is. It's quite similar to those Liebster award etc things, but there's no tagging involved. However, if you do it too, let me know because I love learning more about the people whose blogs I read!

A. Age:
22 (when did that happen? I swear I'm only 17)
B. Bed size:
Double, but that's with my husband - I've never had a double bed just to myself! When I told my husband this he volunteered to sleep on the couch for a night so I can know what it's like, but I figured it can't be THAT amazing. So he can stay.
C. Chore that you hate:
Hmmm... making the bed. Technically tucking it in, because it totally ruins my nails if they're not 100% dry. Also hate ironing because it's such a pain to get out each time.
D. Dogs:
One crazy 11 year old Bichon Frise/miniature poodle who never stopped being a puppy, called Suzy. She lives with my parents though. Oh, she has a phobia of wooden floors, not even kidding.

E. Essential start to your day:
Breakfast. I NEVER miss it. Nom nom nom.
F. Favorite color:
Yellow.
G. Gold or Silver:
Gold for rings, silver for everything else.
H. Height:
173cm... so about 5'8"?
I. Instruments you play:
Piano (quit a few years back but I think I was grade 6?) and I tried violin for a few years.
J. Job title:
Student - but not for much longer!

My first Giveaway!

I've been waiting to do this post for a long time now, and finally all the stuff I ordered has arrived!
So, let me introduce MY FIRST GIVEAWAY! I'm really excited about this, even though it's cost me a fair bit, lol. I don't know about everyone else, but here in NZ nail polish is expensive!
This is also my 100th post! I was going to do this for my 100th follower on here or 1000th on facebook, but I've passed both of those while waiting for the stuff to arrive :)

Right, so here's a list of the things I'm giving away. Please note this is all ONE prize, not individual ones. One person will get all of this :)

China Glaze - Make A Spectacle (Wicked Collection)
China Glaze - Cast a Spell (Wicked Collection)
China Glaze - Bizarre Blurple (Wicked Collection)
China Glaze - Electrify (Hunger Games Capitol Colors Collection)
China Glaze - Purr-fect Plum (On Safari Collection)
Set of five dotting tools from Born Pretty Store.

The best thing about this giveaway, I think, is that I can vouch for all of the items. I have all the same polishes, and they are all amazing! I've done swatches and mini-reviews of them all, so check them out at the end of this post.

Also, this is open INTERNATIONALLY!

I've used rafflecoptor to do this giveaway, it's my first time doing it but I think I know what I'm doing! Biggest thing to note here: DO NOT CHEAT. Aka, don't say you've done a blog post about it when you haven't, don't say you've followed me when you haven't. I'll be checking and double checking the winners, and if you've cheated at all I'll discard all your entries. Comprendo? Let's play nice.

Glitter Gradient and Tiger Stripes

Quickest post ever - my current nails (Candy Floss!) are drying and I try to avoid typing with wet nails. Plus I'm about to eat tea and watch Black Swan.

So: Tiger Stripes. Kinda. I did these ages ago and don't like them that much but thought I'd post them anyway, as everyone has different opinions on nails.

Before I continue - my next post will be my 100th. Which I wanted to be my giveaway one... but I'm still waiting on a package. Damn. So we'll just see what happens I guess.

Taylor Swift Nail Art- "We are never ever getting back together" music video!

I had SO much fun planning and doing these! I was meant to do Taylor Swift nails on the 22nd, when her new album is released, but I found a competition where you do your nails after a music video, so I'm doing it early. I might do another Taylor theme anyway, because I think she's just THAT awesome. I mean, she has at least one song that everyone can relate to. The one I can relate to most is "Mine," but my favourite songs are "Long Live" and "Eyes Open." And every other one she's even sung and/or written.
So yeah, I have a bit of a girl-crush on Taylor Swift.

These nails might look a bit random if you haven't seen the music video, so I advise you check that out here:

The first time I watched it I was like, whaat?? Weirdest clip ever. But it grew on me as I learnt more about the album and now I think it's pretty cool. Not as cool as the video clip for "Mine" - I couldn't love that one more!

I didn't do a tutorial for these, but I took a photo of the stuff I got out for it and took a couple of photos along the way.

My competition entry with just two bottles of nail polish!

Today I found a competition on Nailed it's blog - another Nailed it, not me, obviously! This one was really cool - you can only use two nail polishes! However you can mix colours, which made it a little easier. I figured I had five different colours to choose out of - yellow, blue, red, black and white - every other colour can be made out of those ones. I ended up going for black and white, as you can see. Almost did blue and yellow though!

It was hard to think of an idea with so few colours to play around with. I kind of wanted to do something crazy like my McDonalds nails I did for the last comp, but I couldn't think of anything. So I finally decided on this random dotty/swirly pattern I made up.

Where did my page views go??

Anyone else having the problem of their page views resetting, like right now? I know of at least one other blogger that is... is this normal? I haven't had this before!
I'm meant to have 8500 + pageviews, but I only have 15!

I assume blogger is just failing, but if you know what's going on, let me know please!

Weird weird weird.

Halloween Cupcakes and matching nails!

I really think I outdid myself this time. Not so much on the nails, but on the fact that they matched the cupcakes my friends and I made! Caution: Photo overload. And for the first time ever I'm actually going to post pictures of me, just because well... these are just too cool.
Disclaimer: The cupcakes actually look pretty crap compared to the ones you find all over the internet, but for a first attempt I'm super happy!

Here are the cupcakes we made...

...and here are the nails that I made to match! As you can see, they're not exactly the same, but I'm pretty happy with them. Except for the brain. That just failed miserably...

Daisy Nails Tutorial

Next up on my massively long list is Daisy Nails + tutorial, so here they are! I'm actually quite happy with this little tutorial. Obviously it isn't as nice as the gorgeous ones Chalkboard Nails and other 'big' nail bloggers do, but I think it looks better than my last one.

I'm just going to add some notes in this post about these nails that I couldn't fit in the picture above.

Firstly, this was most of what I used.
Jordana - White
Jordana - Quick Dry Topcoat
China Glaze - Sunshine Pop
Jordana - Calcium Boost Basecoat
Ccuk - Midnight Blue

I also used cotton buds and a little angled brush to clean up with, plus a stiper brush and dotting tool. I actually didn't end up using the striper brush that's in this picture - it's a bit pointy at the end and doesn't work as well for this kind of mani.

Rasta nails are so hard to do! + get a Born Pretty Store Coupon :)

I spend sooo long doing these. They were hard. REALLY hard. I think I set the bar too high, having Tips and Topcat's Bob Marley nails as part of my inspiration...
I don't love them, I don't hate them. They were an experience. I used acrylic paint for the face of Haile Selassie I - okay, it didn't really work. I've always sucked at drawing life-like faces!! I painted it quickly on paper first and that turned out much better, but nails are hard :/.

A facebook follower requested these and to be honest, before I did these I knew very little about Rastas. Turns out the Rastafari movement is so interesting!! I'm pretty keen to study up about Africa now. I know a lot of European history and have a pretty broad knowledge of some of the bigger worldwide events in history... but not much to do with Africa!

Anyway, so here they are.

Hey, more stripes!

Who's seen the Back to the Future movies? I assume most people have. I just LOVE them. I must have watched them all at least five times. I watched the first one again last night and did this mani at the same time. I'm not really sure what to call it, but to me it seems kind of modern, so it kind of matches the movie!

The pinky-purple colour here is called Purple Pumps, by -WOW I love chrome! It just crashed, but when I opened it again it restored everything, didn't even have to start this post again! Phew!
Anway, it's Purple Pumps by Ultra 3. I bought it from Cats-n-nails blog sale, which is amazing, by the way. I got a heap of stuff from her a couple of weeks ago and I'm still no where near trying them all out!

This photo is just a swatch of the colour with 2-3 coats. It wasn't actually as sheer as it looks here - my light made it go a bit funny. I'll post a proper swatch and review to my swatches page soon.

Butterflies from BM-205

Going to do this post pretty quickly, as I need to get ready for uni. I did these butterflies the weekend before last, but haven't got around to posting them until now!

I used
BM-205
Revlon - Apple-tini fizz
Revlon - Grapefruit Fizz
CR - 119
Not sure what the last one was, sorry!

Army/camouflage nails - sponged on

These are such manly nails... I LOVE them! It's weird, some nails I'll love and others hate, while some I hate and others think are amazing. It's so weird, different tastes. Anyway, these were fun and original. I painted them at my parent's bach, which is always where my most original ideas come from as there is no internet, computer or cellphone signal there!

They weren't really meant to 'be' anything, but once they were finished I decided they were camo nails. Just the right colours, I guess. And I did a tutorial for them!

Horse nail art

I'm not going to pretend that I love horses. I think they're very big, strong and very majestic... but not for me. I like my cat :). However, I know many "horsey people" and when someone asked me to do horse nails I was quite happy to. I feel a bit bad too, this is the first time I've done horse nails on myself and my sister's a major horse nut! Bad sister right here!

I was a bit nervous doing these, and thought about how I was going to do them for a long time! I'm pretty happy with the end result though. They're certainly not perfect or anything, but I'm okay with that. I'm still experimenting with what looks good on nails, and I see doing nail art like this as good practice, and a bit of a challenge.

I didn't do a tutorial for this, but I have a photo of the nails before I painted on the horses and horseshoes, so I'll explain how I did that bit.

Nail Polish Stained My Nails - How To Fix Them!

Update: My nails are no longer stained, check the bottom of the post to find out how I fixed them.

This post has turned into something of a experiment - how to get rid of those awful, embarrassing nail stains. First though, I'm going to show you what nail polish I used and give a little background about my nail's health.

I started nail art at the end of April 2012 and made this blog, Nailed it NZ, in early May. To be honest, at the time I didn't even know that nail blogs existed, let alone know that they're a massive thing. My friend over at A girl with some clothes has a blog with fashion and a bit of nail art too, but honestly I had no idea how big the world was that I was entering. I also didn't know that base coats existed! Which, with me painting my nails almost every day led to me quickly getting yellow-stained fingernails. Gross! Ever since then (June 2012), I've used at least one layer of base coat, and I've been patiently waiting for my previous mistakes - the yellowness - to grow out. Here's a shot of them at this stage.

But then THIS happened. Introducing "Lilac Hearts" By Jordana.

Pretty, right? I spent a long, long time trying to get the hearts out of the bottle, but I thought the final result was just adorable. That's Jordana's "Lavender Fields" in the background by the way - "Lilac Hearts" is clear, which made it even weirder when it killed my pretty fingers. I know it wasn't "Lavender Fields" that did it, because I use that polish all the time and it's never done anything.

I did these nails yesterday, and today (typical me) I got bored in class and started peeling them off. To discover...

Three random designs I've had stored away...

Update 30/10/12: WHY is this getting so many views? It's gotten 250 in the last week, and that's a lot for me! Where are you people coming from? Not complaining though!

Normally I like to only post one nail art design per entry, so I can see for sure which ones are more popular.
BUT I don't love any of these ones that much, plus my folders are getting a bit full, so here are three designs I've done in the last month but haven't made it on here

Purple, silver, black, stripy, zig-zag nails. Good name eh?

These ones I apparently did a month ago, and are my favourite out of the three. I like the design and that, I just didn't like the photos that much, which is why they're only going up now.
Hmmm... if I remember correctly I used Revlon's Royal Cloak, a 4me silver and my Jordana striper polish.

Union Jack nails AND my full nail polish collection!

I've always thought that the Union Jack looked awesome on nails! I've seen heaps of them on the net, especially while the Olympics were on. I was a bit more patriotic then, and did the New Zealand Flag on my nails as my 'support' ... although I'm not going to lie, I didn't end up watching a whole lot of it :/.

Anyway, I decided it was time to try them out. Here's the final result! Below I've got a tutorial, swatch of the blue and a photo of my ever-growing nail polish collection.

Right, so these were the polishes I used for this design. From left to right...
Jordana - Mardi Gras
Revlon - Powder Puff
Leiyu - Color 18
Jordana - Pop art - white
